According to a source who spoke with Knox News, Tennessee’s linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary has accepted a position at Michigan, which means the Vols have lost their second assistant this week.
Jerry Mack, the running backs coach, departed on February 12 to take a similar job with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In 2021, Jean-Mary was a part of head coach Josh Heupel’s initial staff at UT. He has been one of the Vols’ top recruiters and a vital position coach.
A year prior, Jean-Mary received a wage raise from $590,000 to $665,000. She also received a one-year contract extension through January 2025.
In 2020, he will be going back to Michigan, where he was a linebackers coach under Jim Harbaugh. During that season, Jean-Mary collaborated with Sherrone Moore, the new Michigan coach.Jean-Mary has been a college coach for twenty-four years.
South Carolina (2001–02), North Alabama (2003), Georgia Tech (2004–09), Louisville (2010–13), Texas (2014–16), South Florida (2017–19), Michigan (2020), and UT (2021-23) are among his prior stops.
Four of Josh Heupel’s initial staff assistants have left.
Heupel’s otherwise reliable staff has had the most amount of turnover in a single summer. In the preceding two years, he had only lost two assistants.
Following the 2021 season, Kodi Burns, the wide receivers coach, agreed to take a similar role with the New Orleans Saints. Alex Golesh, the tight ends coach and offensive coordinator, was appointed South Florida’s head coach following the 2022 year.
Heupel’s original 2021 staff still has six assistants: special teams coordinator/outside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler, offensive coordinator/quarterback coach Joey Halzle, offensive coordinator/linebacker coach Glen Elarbee, defensive coordinator Tim Banks, defensive line coach Rodney Garner, secondary coach Willie Martinez.
