Joe Gelhardt, a striker for Leeds United, was shown looking shocked by Crycensio Summerville’s Panenka penalty during their 3-0 victory over Rotherham on Saturday, February 10.
Leeds secured their fifth consecutive league victory at Elland Road, thanks to two goals from Summerville, which allowed them to maintain pressure on the top two teams in the Championship.
Even though Daniel Farke expressed his distaste for the Panenka, footage from the Dutchman’s outrageous spot-kick of Gelhardt’s response to the goal surfaced (A Kick in the Bremners X account, 10 February) on the touchline.
After the match, the Leeds manager said, “I am too old for this generation,” as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post on February 10. To be honest, I tend to be a little more traditional when it comes to penalties.
“I would prefer to have the ball into the corner, similar to Joel Piroe’s goal from our most recent home game (which included a penalty). This does not sit well with me.
particularly considering how many you have already missed. However, I would rather that he score in this manner rather than taking the usual route and hitting the post.
We occasionally tend to overcomplicate things in front of the goal, which allows us to score in a convoluted manner. I know I’m a little outdated, but I was happy when he scored tonight.
Daniel Farke unhappy with Crysencio Summerville antics
Given his eagerness for the win and three points at such a crucial juncture for the Whites, it becomes sense that Farke despises the Panenka.
He can’t argue with Summerville’s level of confidence right now, though, and if the Dutchman feels comfortable enough to score that way, he has every right to.
With fifteen goals this season, he is clearly doing well, so why not try something spectacular? In football, you have to create your own luck.
Fans of Leeds United will also not give a damn. When they travel to Elland Road, they want to be entertained and get value for their money, and watching Summerville perform with such assurance and charisma makes their journeys worthwhile.
Gelhardt relished the occasion as well, particularly as he hopes to play more for his boyhood club in the near future. However, it is very challenging to leave your mark when guys like Summerville and even Wilfried Gnonto and Patrick Bamford are performing at such a high level.
Even with what he said after the game, Farke would have been happy inside.
In related Leeds United news, Robbie Fowler has vented his rage following Bamford’s latest revelation.
