Surprisingly, the Los Angeles Lakers, who desperately needed reinforcements, chose to hold out at the annual NBA trade deadline.
Considering the talent on the roster, the Lakers have terribly underperformed and are currently sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference.
Rob Pelinka clarified, though, that no trade propelled Los Angeles to the top of the league.
All eyes were on him and Spencer Dinwiddie during the Lakers’ most recent victory against the New Orleans Pelicans, as Pelinka did mention that the team would be active in the buyout market.
The Toronto Raptors waived Dinwiddie, who then had the option to sign with any team after clearing waivers.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the guard is reportedly joining L.A., and his pay was made public.
“Sources tell me and @ShamsCharania that Spencer Dinwiddie is signing for $1.5 million for the second half of the Lakers season. Because they didn’t use their whole non-taxpayer mid-level exception on Gabe Vincent, the Lakers were able to offer Dinwiddie a contract that was above and beyond the minimum.
The Lakers were hopeful that they would be able to sign Dinwiddie, and in the end, they were able to acquire their man.
Though some of that can be linked to the Brooklyn Nets’ problems in the 2023–24 NBA season, Dinwiddie is having a poor shooting year.
The Lakers squad has been severely impacted by injuries, but the seasoned guard has shown that he can step up in the postseason.
Dinwiddie might play in his first game for the purple and gold on Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons, since the team has three days off before their next game.
