The Bills have upgraded their backup quarterback. Security Buffalo has signed Mike Edwards to a one-year contract.
Edwards believed Buffalo’s staff and culture made it the ideal place for him to take his career to the next level.
“The culture, the coaching staff, they sold me very well,” stated Edwards. “It’s friendly to safety.” Over the previous seven years, the two guys they had were fantastic. I therefore thought I could step in, assume that responsibility, and work to improve every week.”

Buffalo Bills Public Relations (@BuffaloBillsPR) March 20, 2024: In his last game, Edwards played for Kansas City, where he finished with 51 total tackles in 17 games, including five starts, one interception, five passes defensed, two fumble recoveries, and one fumble recovery for a touchdown.
The safety sees a few things that set him apart from other employees in the role.
Edwards said, “I feel like my instincts are high.” “Just seeing where the quarterbacks or different routes might be coming in and setting up at…taking the ball away is the biggest thing for me.”Edwards is on his third team after playing in 58 games with 23 starts with the Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022. In those four seasons, Edwards recorded seven pick-sixes, 21 passes defensed, 184 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and seven interceptions.
The safety has watched Buffalo from a distance for many years, so he knows that when it comes to matching his skill set with a new squad, it will be a good fit.
“Watching them from afar, it seems that they come together and play as a group,” Edwards stated. “They appear to be constantly focused on the football, attempting to get all 11 players on it. On this defense, I feel like I can contribute to something great.”
He won Super Bowl LV with the Buccaneers and Super Bowl LVIII with the Chiefs, making him a two-time Super Bowl champion. Edwards is prepared to bring to Buffalo the lessons he gained from those Super Bowl teams.
“You can pick up on some things that you can translate over to the next team and try to give a little insight on what it takes to win the Super Bowl,” Edwards said. “What’s necessary to overcome adversity and win such games consistently…I am completely certain that we can accomplish that, make it to the Super Bowl, and ultimately make it happen.”
