Oscar Gonzalez, an outfielder with the New York Yankees, sustained a frightening injury on Monday night during a spring training friendly game in Mexico City.

Gonzalez fouled a ball off his face in the second inning as he was at bat against Diablos Rojos. He was hit by an inside pitch that jammed him, causing the ball to ricochet off the handle and land squarely on his face, removing his helmet.

In July 2014, Gonzalez joined as an international free agent with the Cleveland Guardians. After making his team debut in 2022, he went on to play 91 games, hit.296 with 11 home runs. With two home runs, twelve RBI, and a.214 batting average in 54 games during the previous season, he was active.

In December, the Yankees selected Gonzalez off waivers in an attempt to bolster their outfield depth.
