Jesse Chavez, a former pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has signed with the Atlana Braves. Through the Braves PR team, the 40-year-old signed a minor league contract with the team, which included an invitation to training camp.
During a brief tenure with the Dodgers in 2016, the right-hand pitcher made his last appearance on the field. After being moved in August 2016, he made his way to Los Angeles, where he would play out the season with the team. With a 4.21 ERA, Chavez appeared in 23 games overall.
Chavez, particularly in the past few years, has turned into a journeyman pitcher. Chavez started his Major League Baseball career in 2008–09 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he made his debut with the Braves in late 2009 after being dealt to them.
Currently in his fifth season with the Braves, Chavez was a member of the team in 2010, 2021, 2022, and 2023. This includes Chavez’s time as a member of the 2021 Braves World Series winning squad. In February of 2023, Chavez inked a contract with the Chicago White Sox following the end of the season. But this past weekend, the White Sox cut him go, thus Chavez is returning to Atlanta on a minor league contract.
Throughout his Major League Baseball career, Chavez has played for the following teams: the Pirates, Braves, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs, and Texas Rangers. He has nine saves in his career and a 4.30 ERA.
