Michigan Basketball Wolverines Signing Seasoned Replacement for 3 players
The head coach of the Michigan Wolverines basketball team has been appointed. The school made the announcement on Sunday that it and Florida Atlantic coach Dusty May had reached a five-year agreement. Via his X account, the former FAU head coach made the announcement.
In the program’s history, May will be the 18th head coach of Michigan. Warde Manuel, the athletic director at Michigan, is looking forward to the next phase of Wolverine basketball.
“We are incredibly happy to have Duyst and his family join us at Michigan. He exemplifies the virtues of exceptional character and high ethics, along with an unmatched grasp of the game of basketball.”
The five-year deal with May pays an average of $3.75 million a season. After five seasons as head coach, Michigan announced that they are parting ways with former Wolverine and member of the Fab 5 Juwan Howard, following a poor 2023–2024 season. Howard was dismissed by the school on March 15.
In Michigan, a new era has begun, and May will try to take the Wolverines to unprecedented heights. After six seasons in Boca Raton, May is returning to Ann Arbor. During his career, he guided the Owls to a 126-49 record and never experienced a losing campaign. May guided his squad to their first-ever Final Four appearance in program history, making their 2023 season unforgettable.
May and the Owls failed to repeat that feat this year, losing to Northwestern in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA tournament. The 47-year-old coach will now serve as the Wolverines’ head coach for the second time in his career two days from tomorrow. He is excited to bring some of his recent FAU achievements to Michigan.
Michigan hasn’t had the best seasons in recent memory. The Wolverines had a fantastic 2021 season, but they haven’t been that good since. Under Howard, Michigan finished with a dismal 8-24 record (3-17 in the Big Ten) and missed out on the NCAA tournament the prior two seasons. Now that May is in charge in Ann Arbor, Michigan is prepared to make a run at the national championship.
