Louisville’s hunt enters a new phase with May’s move to Michigan; two more significant positions might open up soon.
The high-major coaching carousel has been waiting to see where Dusty May would land for the last several weeks. Some in the collegiate basketball community were surprised when the decision was made on Saturday night. May is headed to Michigan. He selected the Wolverines over Louisville and Vanderbilt, and he agreed to a five-year contract worth an average of $3.75 million.
Now that Michigan is off the board, Ohio State and DePaul are the other two high-major universities that have filled their coaching positions. Louisville, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Washington, and West Virginia are the ones still in play. I’ve included the most recent details on those vacancies in the capsules below.
The transfer portal is still adding names and rising past 600 players in the midst of all of this. It gives all of the available positions a sense of urgency. By Monday, I hope to have at least two of those positions filled. And more will follow, based on how Sunday’s NCAA Tournament games turn out. For instance, Danny Sprinkle, the coach at Utah State, is being pursued by Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt, and Washington. If Utah State wins against Purdue, that might cause problems.
As the NCAA Tournament comes to an end, there will soon be around fifty job changes. This is the most recent. We promise that for the next 24 hours, we will become more boisterous.
