Omari Hutchinson and David Datro Fofana continue to play well for Burnley and Ipswich Town.
Ipswich Town is vying for the Championship’s automatic promotion. Burnley is struggling to stay in the Premier League and escape relegation. They all share the quality of Chelsea loanees.
Young Omari Hutchinson, who was just named Championship Player of the Month, stole the show once more as Ipswich Town thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 6-0 to move into second place in the standings, at least for the time being, just one point behind champions Leicester City.
In the fifteenth minute, Hutchinson opened the scoring with a left-footed shot that struck the bottom corner of the net on a spin—and I do mean spin. By half the margin had risen to three, and The Tractor Boys had no intention of letting up on the pressure. Almost immediately into the second half, Hutchinson opened the scoring with another rifled shot, this time from his right, making it 4-0. Just for good measure, he also set up Ipswich’s final goal of the evening.
If you’re keeping track, he’s now has five goals and three assists in his last nine games (six starts).
Whoa!
A few spots up in the pyramid, but one level above, Burnley has managed to hold onto their slim chances of surviving with a 2-1 victory over a horribly out-of-form Brentford, who themselves would better start watching the clubs below them.
Burnley benefited from an early penalty (as well as a red card) against Sergio Reguilón. David Datro Fofana’s goal just after the hour mark increased Burnley’s lead, making up for the clear cut opportunity he had missed in the first half. Burnley had let a two-goal lead slip the week before, so Brentford’s strike in the last ten minutes added some spice to the match, but this time they would hold on.
Even though Vincent Kompany’s squad is still eight points from safety with seven games remaining, they still have three of the four clubs directly above them to play, so there are still plenty of crucial points to be gained. And maybe they can work a miracle if Fofana continues his goal-scoring streak of four goals in eight games, including back-to-backs.
