According to reports, Leeds United is interested in signing Luca Netz, a defender for Borussia Monchengladbach.
Netz, who left Hertha Berlin in 2021 to join Gladbach, plays left back for the Bundesliga team. The 20-year-old is considered as one of the league’s best defensive talents and has made 25 appearances for the German team in all competitions this season.
Give Me Sport claims that Leeds has been monitoring Netz on a regular basis in hopes of signing the defender this summer. At Elland Road, Junior Firpo is the starting left-back right now, thus the signing would increase competition for that spot in Daniel Farke’s team.
It’s been rumored that Leeds will have to fight with a few Premier League teams to sign Netz. According to the source, in recent months, scouts from Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea have also visited Netz’s facility to observe its operations.
The article makes no indication of Gladbach’s asking price for the left-back. Furthermore, it is unclear if a deal would be contingent on Leeds winning promotion to the Premier League for the upcoming year.
Given Farke’s prior experience working with Netz, this could work to his favor in any future discussions. During his tenure as manager at Gladbach the previous season, the Leeds manager gave Netz 23 games across all competitions, including seven Bundesliga starts.
A question concerning Netz’s early career progress was posed to Farke in April of last year. The left-back’s ability to play top-tier football even with his inexperience would be praised by the future Leeds manager.
“Luca is a young guy who has already played 50 games in the Bundesliga,” Farke stated in April of last year on the Monchengladbach team website. “His ability to play at this level is unquestionable. For him, the goal now is to demonstrate that in each practice and each game through reliable performances.
He is growing every week and exerting pressure on Benedebaini, Ramy. He has a great career ahead of him at Borussia [Monchengladbach], I’m convinced of it, but he needs to prove he deserves to be a regular player like everyone else.”
