The senior guard achieved a career-high point total on Thursday night, moving one step closer to joining the elite UNC women’s basketball team.
Deja Kelly, a player for the UNC women’s basketball team, has had an incredible career.
The senior guard improved her already stellar credentials on Thursday night as she became just the 11th player in UNC women’s basketball history to reach the 1,800 point career mark.
Kelly appropriately hit the mark at the free throw line, a position she has really leaned on while attending North Carolina. The senior put herself in a great position to secure a spot among the top 10 scorers in UNC women’s basketball history on Sunday afternoon, despite the fact that it wasn’t exactly a Deja Kelly-esque scoring effort.
As the 2023–2024 North Carolina regular season draws to a close, Kelly, a native of San Antonio, Texas, will need just one point to separate himself from Chanel Wright for sole ownership of tenth place on the all-time scoring record. This will be Kelly’s “Senior Day.” Kelly will pass Kathy Crawford for ninth position on the list with two points, while Nikki will remain in eighth place.
Whether she decides to play a fifth season for the UNC women’s basketball team or not, Deja Kelly has undoubtedly established herself as one of the greatest players to have ever worn the Carolina Blue uniform.
Kelly could have a ton more points coming up as North Carolina attempts to go deep into the postseason come March.
