“The sad truth for Town supporters”: Newcastle United is considering a deal with Ipswich
Ipswich Town, an impressive player for the Tractor Boys this season, is the most recent name to be associated with leaving the division.
The 24-year-old is being watched by Premier League team Newcastle United in anticipation of a possible summer transfer, according to TalkSPORT’s transfer notebook.
West Ham United is also rumored to be interested, so the Magpies are not the only elite team reportedly considering a move.
Davis might find it enticing to move to Newcastle.
Leif Davis and Glen Kamara
We began considering the possible move after keeping the aforementioned in mind.
This begged the question, “Is Leif Davis ready for the Premier League?” among other things. and, in fact, if Ipswich Town supporters ought to be concerned that he might leave the team amid these rumors this summer.
So far this season, Leif Davis has been nothing short of extraordinary in the Championship.
Few would have predicted that he would be able to approach his 14 assists from the previous season in League One in the Championship. With 15 games remaining, he now has 12 assists in the second tier, thus odds are he will surpass last year’s total.
Of course, that’s made possible by Ipswich’s system, but Davis is a true threat offensively from full-back, and in that regard, he perfectly fits the requirements of the position in the modern game.
Because of this, it is not surprise that high-tier teams are interested in him, and his performance in the Championship this year definitely suggests he at least deserves a chance to play in the top division.
Davis would find it difficult to reject the offer based alone on the move’s merits, as Newcastle is a driven team looking to the future.
A move to St. James’ Park, though, would undoubtedly be difficult to refuse given that Davis was born in Newcastle and has already stated that he is a fan of the team.
That’s why Ipswich Town supporters should be worried about Davis leaving this summer, since their best chance of keeping him around may be if they get promoted to the top division.
Given his incredible season, it’s hardly surprising that the Premier League is interested in Leif Davis.
The defender has been a vital member of the Tractor Boys team, which is still pushing against the odds to win back-to-back promotions and a Premier League return. He is a creative asset on Ipswich Town’s left wing.
There are several reasons why he can succeed in the Premier League because of his incredible speed and left foot, but defensively, he hasn’t shown as much versatility.
Nevertheless, from a Newcastle standpoint, he’s probably worth a try, and you can see why Town supporters might be concerned that he’ll be moving this summer if they don’t win promotion.
Davis has had a great experience at Portman Road and is undoubtedly enjoying his time with Ipswich, but it is difficult to pass down a transfer into the Premier League. You never know when you’ll have another shot because you could lose it due to a poor season or a serious injury.
And there’s the Newcastle element. The 24-year-old was raised in the North East, so moving to St. James’ Park at this juncture in an extremely exciting project would be a significant financial and professional step for him.
For Town fans, the unfortunate reality is that Davis will probably leave if the Toon are serious.
