Craig Roh, a former star defensive back for Michigan football who played for the Wolverines from 2009 to 2012 at several defensive positions, passed away on Monday at the age of 33, his wife announced on social media on Wednesday.
Craig’s spouse, Chelsea, revealed the news on his X account, stating that he had Stage IV colon cancer for a period of eighteen months. His family established a GoFundMe page to aid with Chelsea’s and their 2-year-old son Max’s medical costs. As of Wednesday afternoon, more than $80,000 had been raised through the fundraising. Roh had been discreetly battling his advanced colon cancer diagnosis for the previous year and a half, undergoing clinical therapies and chemotherapy, according to GoFundMe.As a four-year starter for the Wolverines, Roh switched between outside linebacker, defensive end, and defensive tackle, setting a program record with 51 consecutive starts. During his four years as a Wolverine, Roh did not miss a single game. In 2009, Sporting News selected him as a freshman All-American, and in 2011, he was named Academic All-Big Ten. Roh was a member of the 2011 Sugar Bowl winning team and was coached by Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke.
