Mohamed Diomande disclosed last month that his romance with Rangers started much earlier than any transfer interest.
The 22-year-old Ibrox midfielder has been following Rangers ever since he was seen on camera wearing a team shirt while still a little boy in Ghana.
When Diomande was training in Ghana eleven years ago, scout Joe Mulberry gave him a Rangers shirt. Diomande arrived from FC Nordsjaelland in January.
Diomande has followed Rangers ever since, which has resulted in his transfer to the team.
When asked about the iconic photo of himself as a child wearing Rangers apparel, Diomande replied, “I got the shirt from a guy who scouted me from Abidjan when I was 11 years old. His name is Joe Mulberry from England.”
“When I was in the academy, he scouted me out of Abidjan and bought me a Rangers shirt, which I wore for some private training in Ghana. When asked about his first goal at Ibrox, during the 5-0 rout of Hearts, Diomande beamingly responded, “It’s amazing to score in front of your fans and for them to cheer for you. I hope there’s many more coming. I’m just happy to score my first goal at Ibrox.” “I would also say that it was one of the key moments that made the deal happen because I was in love with the club already from a young age.”
