Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco has signed and will be added to the practice squad, the organisation said on Monday.
After Deshaun Watson’s season-ending shoulder injury, Flacco will provide veteran depth behind rookie quarterbacks Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker. ESPN was the first to disclose Flacco’s signing. The team cut wide receiver Trinity Benson from the practice squad to create space on the roster.
Flacco joins the Browns, his sixth franchise in the NFL, with fifteen seasons of experience. The Baltimore Ravens selected Flacco in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft (18th overall), and he helped the team win Super Bowl 47 in 2012, taking home the MVP award. With 38,245 yards, Flacco—who spent 11 seasons as a Raven—is the team’s all-time leading passer (Lamar Jackson is second with 14,650 yards). In his final season, Flacco started four games for theThompson-Robinson Jets in 2022.
Following Watson’s injury, Sunday’s 13-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers was Thompson-Robinson’s second NFL start of his career. Earlier in the season, Walker also started two games while Watson was out due to a rotator cuff issue in his throwing shoulder.
