Enzo Maresca, the manager of Leicester City, has talked about the team’s journey to Leeds United on Friday night at the top of the Championship.
Leeds United vs. Leicester City on Friday is an important match for the home team, but it will be just like any other for the visitors. Although Enzo Maresca has downplayed the significance of the Foxes’ matchup with Leeds, he believes it is now more significant given the current distance.
With thirteen games remaining, City’s lead is currently nine points. The onus is on the Whites to cut the deficit to six points if they have genuine hopes of winning the trophy in May. This is their last chance to directly undermine Leicester’s title hopes.
For them, it’s a massive, huge, huge game, Maresca remarked. It’s just one more game for us.
During his pre-match press conference, the Italian was pressed to clarify why this was such a routine encounter for the league leaders. Although Maresca acknowledges that Leicester has a big game, a team like Leeds is unquestionably in the lead.
“They are ahead of us by nine points, so it’s even more important for them than it is for us,” he remarked. “This is the sole explanation.
“We need to win this game if we were nine points behind on the other side. This is not how I feel. Our goal, as it has been since the beginning, is to win, but it’s only three points.
The home records of Leicester and Leeds are among the few metrics on which Leicester cannot match Leeds. Despite Leicester having played one more game than United, they have each scored forty points at home this season, and United has an undefeated record at Elland Road.
Maresca was questioned about why he believed Farke’s team had such a stronghold in West Yorkshire. Though he couldn’t be certain, he made it obvious by pointing to the mood that the fans wouldn’t win the game on Friday night.
“We won with [Manchester] City the last time I was there,” he remarked. For them to be defeated at home. I’m not sure. They commented that the surroundings are excellent. That is accurate, but the game will not be won by the supporters. It’s eleven against eleven.
