After a dismal first half of the season, which included a 50-point loss in their last game before the All-Star break in Boston, the Brooklyn Nets dismissed Jacque Vaughn on Monday.
A year or so after extending Vaughn’s contract, the Nets said they would soon select an interim coach.
The Nets finished 21-33 and in 11th place in the Eastern Conference after dropping five of their last six games before the break. Their 136-86 loss to the Celtics on Wednesday was their worst loss in team history and their worst since moving to Brooklyn in 2012. Leading scorer Mikal Bridges appeared especially irritated in his postgame remarks.
Vaughn led the Nets into the playoffs twice during his two spells there, finishing 71-68 overall.
General manager Sean Marks said in a statement, “This was an extremely difficult decision, but one we feel is in the best interest of the team going forward.” “For the past eight years, Jackie has represented this institution with impeccable dignity and grace. The players and staff he worked with during his stint will never forget the constant positivity and energy he brought to our team every day.
