The NCAA on Tuesday fined, placed Michigan on three years of probation, and placed recruiting restrictions on the university after football coaches and staff under then-coach Jim Harbaugh had improper contact with players and recruiters while access was restricted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Regarding infractions involving five current and former coaches and staff members, the NCAA stated it had reached a negotiated agreement with the school that has been accepted by the committee. However, it omitted claims that Harbaugh had not cooperated with investigators. Now, that is a different case.

We’re happy to get this issue resolved so that our football program and student-athletes can continue. We are unable to comment further on other elements of the as we do not have any more information.

According to Tom Mars, Harbaugh’s lawyer, the coach was not informed that an NCAA agreement had been struck between the school or extended an invitation to partake in the settlement process. Currently, Harbaugh is the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach.

Not that he would have taken part, mind you. Mars told AP that would have depended on the terms that the NCAA had requested. It seems strange that Jim wasn’t even given the option to accept or deny. What does that indicate about the goals of the NCAA?
