Despite Cyriel Dessers of the Super Eagles of Nigeria scoring a goal in Rangers’ 3-1 victory over Hibernian on Saturday, March 30, manager Philippe Clement is unimpressed with the player.
Cyriel Dessers joined Rangers in the summer after leaving Italian team Cremonese, and in his first season, he has shown promise in front of goal.
Dessers’ goal against Hibernian on Saturday brought his season total of goals scored to 16. The 29-year-old international has drawn criticism from a number of analysts and segments of the club’s fan base despite his goal-scoring ability.
It’s normal for a striker to score goals, but coach Clement wants his players to be more involved in other elements of the game, he stated after Rangers’ victory against Hibernian on Saturday.
“Impressed is not the right word with Cyriel,” the coach responded when asked if he was impressed with Dessers’ performance. He can do things that are typical. Additionally, I believe there is still a considerable margin of error with him.
He’s putting a lot of effort into it. It’s not just the striker who needs to score goals, in my opinion. They have various responsibilities to the team.
They will then be put in positions to score goals. A squad where every player can score is more crucial. It’s far harder to stop that.
“If a club has a player who is the main goal scorer, they stop him, and the narrative is over. We score goals through attackers, wingers, midfielders, full-backs, and center-backs, among others. In this team, Jack Butland is the only one without a goal. That’s the kind of football I want to watch because it’s hard to stop.
