The club has stated that at Derry City FC’s recent away game against Bohemians, a young fan had burn injuries as a result of flares being lit in the crowded stand.
The club issued a statement in which it said that it had been fined €2,500 for the “ignition of pyrotechnics” and cautioned away supporters of Derry City that if there were any more infractions this season, they might not be allowed to attend games.
“This is a major safety issue and is of ongoing concern to the club,” a club spokeswoman stated.
In a statement, Derry City FC stated: “Derry City FC was fined €2,500 for using fireworks during their previous match against Bohemians at Dalymount Park.
“These flares were fired in a crowded stand during the game, injuring a young supporter with burns. The team has already been fined more than €3,500 for pyrotechnic violations during recent away games this season alone. The Club is still concerned about this because it is a serious safety hazard.
“If there are any other recorded pyrotechnic offenses this season, there is also a good chance that our fans will not be allowed to travel to away games. We can no longer afford these fines, which are unsustainable for our Club and negatively impact our budget.
“The Club would also like to acknowledge and commend our supporters’ compliance at all Home games this season as there have been no reported incidents of pyrotechnic offences,” the club spokeswoman said. It is our hope that all fans will continue to follow the Club’s and our match night security team’s instructions.
“Lastly, we kindly request that all fans adhere to the recently implemented stadium entry policies, which are intended to direct fans to the entrance closest to their assigned seat or terrace.
