The NBA has aggressively entered the gambling market, and sports betting has grown in popularity. Still, there has been pushback, and Erik Spoelstra, the head coach of the Miami Heat, is one of those who has voiced concerns. “I think it treads on a weird line, for sure,” Spoelstra said in a media conference prior to the Heat’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. The gambler appeared to want Victor Oladipo to take at least one more shot even though the game was already decided, likely so he could hit a bet. “We had an incident behind us,” Spoelstra said.
It is, in my opinion, a little inconsistent,” Spoelstra remarked. “It definitely crosses a strange boundary,”
Prior to the Heat’s Wednesday night game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Spoelstra spoke with the media and shared a concerning story about a gambler from the previous campaign. Even though the outcome of the game was already known, the person appeared to want Victor Oladipo to attempt at least one more shot—possibly in order to win a bet.
“Vic Oladipo and I had an incident behind our bench last year,” Spoelstra remarked. “There was screaming.” He had to be taken away by security. He didn’t appear to shoot an open three at the end of the game, and the game was already finished. This fan was completely on board with the decision about the game.
