To begin with, I would want to express my gratitude to Heart of Midlothian for once again hosting the contest. One of Scotland’s most recognisable and easily accessible stadiums, Tynecastle Park is known for the amazing atmosphere it can create and is a fantastic backdrop for the final.
It still amazes me that Rangers defeated Hibernian 2-0 here more than 15 months ago. That day was momentous for the game because it was the first-ever Sky Sports Cup Final, the first-ever live SWPL match on Sky Sports, there was an unprecedented turnout, Rangers won their first trophy in the tournament, and Lizzie Arnot scored the goal of the season. We hope that even more history for women’s football in Scotland will be made in this final.
I like to express my gratitude to Sky Sports for their unwavering support and dedication to the women’s game. Our seven-year collaboration is in its second season, and now their name is synonymous with this competition. In addition to our collaboration with this competition, our broadcast partnership guarantees that at least five SWPL games are televised live each season on Sky Sports. The SWPL is also regularly featured on Sky channels, such as Sky Sports News, which guarantees that the league is regularly introduced to new viewers. Without a question, this collaboration with a well-known international brand has had a huge impact on the Scottish women’s game and the SWPL.
I’d like to congratulate Partick Thistle and Rangers for making it to the final this year. A close game between two sides that drew 0-0 in their previous meeting in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League is to be expected. Both have earned their spot, having advanced through extremely tight and intensely contested semi-finals. A special mention goes out to Partick Thistle, who are hoping to win this competition for the first time and have advanced to their first-ever elite women’s cup final. They each have ‘Roads to the Final’ that you can learn more about in this program.
I would like to express my gratitude for coming and supporting the women’s game. If you do like the game, you can find out more about the future fixtures on our website, SWPL.UK. The SWPL season begins next Sunday, and there will be more action throughout.
Lastly, good luck to all the players, club officials, and match officials. As much as it does for everyone watching, we hope that you have a memorable occasion today.
