What transpired with Rizzo?

TAMPA, Florida: In the movie “Ghostbusters,” there’s a scene where Bill Murray’s character goes on the attack about ghosts taking over New York City. He summarizes it as follows:

“Coexisting dogs and cats! Mass panic!

The Yankees of New York aren’t quite there yet. However, some members of the team may have thought that Friday’s announcement served as a stark reminder of the devastating wave of injuries that destroyed their 2023 campaign.

About 20 minutes into Friday’s 5-3 victory over the New York Mets at George M. Steinbrenner Field, first baseman Anthony Rizzo pulled himself out of the lineup, becoming the latest prominent player to be declared too injured to play. The reason: a tense left lat.

Rizzo stated, “It won’t be a problem for Opening Day.” “That is undoubtedly true.”

Aaron Boone, manager, was a little more circumspect. When asked if Rizzo will be ready for the season’s opening game on March 28 at Minute Maid Park against the Houston Astros, he used the word “hopefully.”

Boone stated, “We need to make sure we’re good (Saturday), the next day, and see how it goes.” “Looks like something he’s had a lot of experience with.”

What transpired with Rizzo?
Rizzo claimed that on Thursday, he initially experienced lat soreness. As he warmed up on Friday, it grew worse. The Yankees had him slated to bat fourth in their lineup.

Rizzo has sustained the same ailment previously.

Sincerely, for the past 12 years, he remarked.

He stated that there is a broad range in the recovery time and that he may have exacerbated the discomfort in the past by pushing through it. He claimed that healing has occasionally required as little as two days and as much as eight days in other cases.

He declared, “Just knowing where we’re at this spring training and this moment, this is precaution at its fullest.” Once more, it’s only common sense. When I was younger, I would have just kept going, played, and managed to fit in a spring training game. But it’s simply not worthwhile.

“I’m not going to risk it developing into something that can be really bad,” he continued.

In the offseason, Luis Torrens, a catcher, filled in for Rizzo at first base by playing a lot of it in winter ball.

Boone stated of Rizzo, “He didn’t seem worried about it.”

Rizzo stated that he might participate in the last spring training game of the season on Sunday or Monday.
