After seven years of marriage, Erik Spoelstra, the head coach of the Miami Heat, and his wife Nikki Spoelstra are splitting.
What transpired: On November 29, Erik, 53, and Nikki, 36, jointly released a statement announcing their decision to formally dissolve their marriage, citing “difficult yet amicable” circumstances. They stayed away from specifics.
“We thank you for respecting our family’s privacy and we appreciate everyone’s support as we move on to the next chapter of our lives,” they stated.
About the former pair: The couple were married in 2016. They have three kids: 1-year-old Ruby, 3-year-old Dante, and 5-year-old Santiago. According to reports, they split up recently.

Erik, a Filipino American, has been coaching the Miami Heat for 16 seasons at this point. In 2022, he was crowned the NBA’s top head coach. In contrast, Nikki began her career in 2005 as a dancer for the Miami Heat. In 2021, she debuted her podcast, “The Know with Nikki Spo.”
Going forward: The couple stated that they are “fully committed to co-parenting our children and continuing to make them our shared priority” despite their divorce. They were both appreciative of their partnership as well.
Nikki said in an X post following the release of their statement that she “got help for alcohol addiction” in 2020. She wrote, “Today, I choose gratitude + joy.”
