On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 coaching staff’s complete roster was made public, including a few promotions.

It’s realistic to assume that Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, will be scrutinized closely throughout the 2024 NFL season. The former Super Bowl champion coach has guided America’s Team to three consecutive seasons with twelve wins, but going into the final year of his contract, a 1-3 postseason record during that run has put him under pressure.

This offseason, McCarthy made a few changes to his coaching staff, one of them being the signing of Mike Zimmer as defensive coordinator in place of Dan Quinn. On Tuesday, all the information regarding McCarthy’s 2024 crew is finally known.

Cowboys News: Dallas Coaching Staff for 2024 Identified
Fans already knew quite a bit about the Cowboys’ 2024 roster, but there were two promotions included in Tuesday’s news. In addition to overseeing the defensive backs, Al Harris was elevated to associate head coach, and Robert Prince was appointed as the new coordinator of the pass game.

The promotion of Harris, a former All-Pro cornerback, is well deserved. When McCarthy arrived in Dallas in 2020, the former Texas A&M-Kingsville product joined his coaching team. McCarthy had previously spent the majority of his coaching career with the Kansas City Chiefs. The fact that the Cowboys have finished 11th or better in passing yards against in three of the last four seasons indicates that he has so far had a favorable effect on the secondary.

Regarding Prince, the 58-year-old has been a coach for more than 35 years. Prior to joining the Atlanta Falcons as an offensive coach in 2004, the Okinawa, Japan native worked for 15 years as a graduate assistant with several different college teams after starting as a graduate assistant with Humboldt State in 1989. He bounced among NFL and NCAA teams for almost twenty years before signing with the Cowboys in 2022 to become the wide receiver coach.

Simply examining CeeDee Lamb’s statistics since Prince joined the team will demonstrate why the latter is likewise deserving of this promotion. After all, over the previous two seasons, Lamb’s 242 receptions, 3,108 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns rank first, second, and third in the NFL, respectively.

It remains to be seen if the promotions of Harris and Prince will enable America’s Team to snap its nearly 30-year championship streak. Right now, DraftKings Sportsbook has the Cowboys tied for seventh-best Super Bowl 59 odds.
