The 2023 Zenith Women’s Basketball League champion is the MFM Women’s Basketball Club.

In the Super 4 playoff final held on Thursday at the National Stadium’s indoor sports hall in Lagos, they triumphed 64–60 over Nigeria Customs.

After coming so close to placing second previous season, this is MFM’s first title.

After a lengthy wait, the hotly contested championship match was a fitting conclusion to the season that began months earlier.

MFM and Nigeria Customs were deadlocked at 15 points each in the first quarter of the championship match.

However, MFM opened up a four-point lead after the second quarter (32–28), and when the third quarter concluded 50–40 in their favor, it seemed like they were coasting.

But in the last quarter, Nigeria Customs pulled off a victory, finishing 58-58.

Due to this event, there was an additional five minutes of play to determine the winner. The Olukoya Girls prevailed, winning the tense match 64-60.

Nigerian Customs and Air Warriors advanced from the Savannah Conference to the Super Four in Lagos, while MFM Women Basketball Club and Bayelsa Blue Whales advanced from the Atlantic Conference to the championship game.

Nigerian Customs defied the odds in their conference, winning every game to travel to Lagos undefeated, but on Thursday against MFM, they crumbled when it meant most.
