Manhertz becomes second tight end signed by Giants in last 24 hours.

Adam Schefter of ESPN’s NFL Insider has reported that tight end Chris Manhertz, a free agent, has signed with the New York Giants. Manhertz, a New York native from The Bronx, played 16 games and made four starts for the Denver Broncos in 2023.

Manhertz, who is now in his tenth season in the NFL, previously played for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2021–2022), the Carolina Panthers (2016–2020), and the New Orleans Saints (2016) before moving to Denver.

Manhertz played collegiate basketball at Canisius University before training to become a professional football player. He had no prior football experience. In May 2015, after giving him a tryout, he signed a future/reserve deal with the Buffalo Bills.

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound tight end has made 26 receptions for 271 yards and two scores in his nine-year career.

Manhertz’s ability to block is what makes him most famous. His career pass-blocking effectiveness rating is 97.0, according Pro Football Focus.

A day after the Giants signed free agent tight end Jack Stoll, they added Manhertz.
