Gary Lineker has replied to Leeds United’s victory, which saw the Whites easily defeat Millwall and go above Leicester City to the top of the Championship standings on Sunday afternoon.

After playing for the Foxes after going through their system, Lineker is a huge supporter of Leicester and is eager to see his team get promoted right away. They have held the top spot for a while.

In fact, at one point they led by 17 points. However, the Foxes are having trouble winning now that they have peaked. Leicester played Chelsea in the FA Cup this past weekend, but they were defeated 4-2.

Leeds had an opportunity to capitalize on it; a two-goal victory would have been sufficient to go up to the top, and Daniel Farke’s team accomplished just that. Win 2-0 thanks to goals from Dan James and Willy Gnonto.

Leicester, of course, has the advantage in this match; Leeds and Leicester are currently tied at 82. Ipswich is on 81, and Southampton appears to be a little out of the running. On The Rest Is Football, Lineker responded to our victory.

“Sharp.” I declared that I would rather win the FA Cup than be promoted. A trophy above returning to the Premier League, since we would win a lot more games the next season. I’m afraid now that we won’t receive either.

As Leeds defeats Millwall to move above Leicester, Gary Lineker responds.

Not to mention, it was their 12th league victory in 13 meetings. After the match, Georginio Rutter made remarks on promotion, saying that Leeds’ strength will serve as a reminder to those in the Championship heading into the break.

With eight games remaining, Leeds may possibly need to maintain this winning streak to have a chance of taking first position. Not that it really matters. It’s automatic promotion that we require.

For now, though, a nap. deservedly so. The Whites’ next game is on Friday against Watford, although a number of players will play for their respective nations, including the Wales quartet versus Glen Kamara.
