list of players that are suspended this season
After losing out on home games against USC and UCLA to end the regular season last week, Arizona intended to pound the drum at least once more.
The Wildcats understood that in order to accomplish that, they would need to turn to their two all-around fifth-year seniors, Helena Pueyo and Esmery Martinez, and return to Arizona basketball—that swarming, smothering defense.
Wednesday night at MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the seventh-seeded Wildcats accomplished precisely that, defeating the 10th-seeded Washington team 58-50 in the opening round of the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Regarding the previously stated drum, Martinez was the one who went to the Arizona pep band after the game and tried it out. She then proceeded to the Pac-12 stage and continued to pound the drum live on television.
Martinez remarked, “I like music; I love it.” “It reminds me of home.” I did it for that reason. I was ecstatic.
On Thursday night, the Wildcats are hoping Martinez can pound the drum once more. If so, Arizona would have triumphed in their swift rematch with USC, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. A week earlier, the Wildcats lost 95-93 in double overtime. They would like to get revenge.
But Arizona’s hopes of making the NCAA Tournament are undoubtedly maintained by their victory on Wednesday.
Considered an NCAA bubble club as well, Washington (16-14, 6-12) is returning home to await Selection Sunday’s outcome.
For these two teams, this was their rematch. Three weeks ago, the Wildcats won at home in quadruple overtime after the Huskies had won the opening game in Seattle.
