To end the week, former Tennessee Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt received some bad news.
The NCAA announced on Friday that Pruitt’s appeal against the penalties he received as a result of the recruiting scandal that led to his dismissal from Tennessee was unsuccessful.
Pruitt’s appeal was always unlikely to succeed given the volume of evidence (most of which provided to the NCAA) supporting the NCAA’s conclusions.
Pruitt will face a one-year suspension and a six-year show-cause ban for collecting illicit benefits of approximately $60k, the most of which went for rent, medical bills, and other costs. This is absurd, to put it mildly.
Pruitt is not permitted to return to college football as an assistant coach despite the fact that student-athletes can now earn seven figures. This is because of recruiting violations that barely cover one month’s worth of non-intercollegiate wages for some of the best players in the nation.
This is just another example of the NCAA’s irrational behavior.
There are a lot of different opinions about Pruitt, but I think we can all agree that the NCAA is abusing him.
