Star big man Bam Adebayo had a great game on Wednesday night despite the Miami Heat losing their fourth straight game to the Denver Nuggets in a dismal ending. Erik Spoelstra commended him for guarding Nikola Jokic, who is perhaps the finest player in the NBA, while being one of Miami’s primary offensive weapons. It wasn’t an easy task.
With Jokic averaging 26.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game while shooting 58.2 percent from the floor, not many teams can claim to have limited him. Nevertheless, Adebayo succeeded in doing so, holding “The Joker” to just 12 points. Following the game, Spoelstra declared that Adebayo was the only player in the NBA who would compete “toe-to-toe” and “minute-for-minute” with him.
Bam is the only person who will match Jokic minute for minute. By signing up for it, Bam exposes himself to the competition and makes himself vulnerable. Despite Adebayo’s outstanding effort, the Heat ultimately lost the rematch in the NBA Finals and suffered their fourth consecutive loss. With 17 games remaining, Miami is now 35-30 overall, sixth in the Eastern Conference. There is no margin for error as the team embarks on a four-game road trip that begins on Friday against the Detroit Pistons.
