Though it appeared to take an eternity, the Michigan Wolverines ultimately revealed Sherrone Moore’s defensive staff for the football team on Friday.
Among them were the appointments of Greg Scruggs as defensive line coach, Brian Jean-Mary as linebackers coach and defensive run-game coordinator, Lamar Morgan as secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator, and Wink Martindale as defensive coordinator.
Moore stated, “I am excited about the quality of the coaches that we have assembled on the defensive side of the football,” as part of the Michigan Wolverines’ announcement. “Very good men who have a strong passion for football and make excellent teachers. Our defensive players will be well-positioned to thrive both on and off the field thanks to them. As we strive to win titles for the University of Michigan, I am thrilled to collaborate with this amazing group of assistant coaches.”
In other news, Mike Hart’s decision to leave the Michigan football team was officially verified, meaning that the club would have a new running backs coach for the 2024 campaign. They also hired Brad Hawkins as a graduate assistant.
In hockey, the Michigan Wolverines defeat Notre Dame.
The Big Ten hockey tournament began on Friday with Michigan hockey hosting Notre Dame for the first game of a best-of-three series.
Late in the second stanza, the Irish were up 4-2 in their opening quarterfinal game against the other team. But Michigan cut the margin to one goal late in the second half, and T.J. Hughes scored the equalizer with just 11 seconds remaining in the third.
After three minutes, Rutger McGroarty scored the game’s second goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, as the Michigan Wolverines won 5-4 to take a 1-0 series lead.
Game two of the best-of-three series between Michigan hockey and Notre Dame will take place inside Yost Arena tonight at 7 PM EST (B1G plus).
