Lewis Travis, a loan player from Ipswich Town, is enjoying his time at Portman Road but believes the result of the promotion drive will not affect him in the near future.
When Ipswich Town signed midfielder Travis in January, there were questions. While many were not surprised that Blackburn Rovers allowed their captain and a first-team regular to leave on loan to a Championship opponent, it was still a decent bargain for the Tractor Boys.
The change was eventually approved because Jon Dahl Tomasson, the manager of Ewood Park at the time, frequently inclined toward other possibilities in the middle of the park.
Travis has mostly served as Massimo Luongo’s and Sam Morsy’s backup at Portman Road, though he hasn’t really been a regular there. The 26-year-old has obviously enjoying his stay in East Anglia, though.
When asked about his future, Travis gave a positive account of his time at Ipswich Town, as reported by the EADT. He said he felt the result of Town’s promotion campaign might not have much of an impact on his future as a loan player with a contract at Blackburn Rovers, adding that he will have to wait and see what the summer brings.
He declared, “It doesn’t really matter what happens this season.”
“Obviously, Blackburn, a great club, is still under contract with me, but we’ll have to wait and see what the future brings.
“I adore Portman Road and I adore this place.”
Considering the future
Only time will tell what Travis’s summer has in store, and Blackburn Rovers will undoubtedly consider all of their alternatives. The manager who let him fall out of favor has moved on, and John Eustace, the new manager, will undoubtedly want to take advantage of the opportunity to evaluate the club captain to see if he fits into his ideas.
If not, Travis will have plenty of options if another exit is approved. Despite not getting as much playing time as he may have wanted, he is a leader and an all-action midfielder with a ton of Championship experience, which will have been helpful to his loan club, Ipswich Town.
The Blackburn Rovers loanee has had a great experience at Portman Road, so it wouldn’t be shocking if he was interested in staying on permanently. Maybe in due course, it will become apparent whether the Tractor Boys would feel the same way.
For the time being, though, Travis will be trying to contribute wherever he can while Ipswich Town battles for promotion. They are two points ahead of Leeds United and three points behind struggling leaders Leicester City in the Championship standings.
