This season, Southampton, Leeds United, Ipswich Town, and Leicester City will compete for a top-two Championship position.
Enzo Maresca’s Foxes are currently only six points ahead of the leaders in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League, which is heating up.
With 72 points, Daniel Farke’s Whites are closing in on Leicester and are currently among the top two teams in the Championship.
Though they are tied for third place with Leeds thanks to their goal differential, Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich have also returned to form and are level on points with them.
Russell Martin’s Southampton are located a few spots further back. They now have 67 points in the league after winning only one of their previous four games.
It will be interesting to watch how Leicester, Leeds, Ipswich, and Southampton do during the following 12 games, though, since a lot can change in a matter of matchdays.
Now that matchday 46 has come to an end, Gary Lineker has shared his prediction for who he believes will place in the top two.
He wants the top two teams, the Foxes and the Whites, to stay in that spot and make a quick return to the Premier League.
Following the Whites’ FA Cup defeat to Chelsea, he stated on The Rest Is Football, “I think Leeds are a decent side.”
“I’m feeling like… The two teams that will most likely be promoted back into the Premier League are Leicester and Leeds.
“I believe both of them have strong Premier League teams, especially Leicester.”
Leaders Leicester and Leeds are being pursued by Ipswich and Southampton.
Relegated teams may not always be able to adapt to the demands of the second division and continue to pursue promotion because the Championship is a hard-fought marathon.
The likes of Southampton, Leeds, and Leicester have all adjusted well, and it’s encouraging to see Ipswich as a new contender.
There are still 12 games left in the thrilling fight for promotion, and there will definitely be many more turns and turns.
