After suffering an injury during Friday’s 3-0 loss to Preston, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, a midfielder for Coventry, will likely miss the remainder of the season, according to manager Mark Robins.
Since the 27-year-old Japan international fell awkwardly and had to be brought to the hospital, Robins has not yet disclosed the extent of his injuries.
Sakamoto was seen getting around unassisted at the CBS Arena on Monday during Coventry’s 5-0 FA Cup victory against Maidstone.
“He will recover, that’s the main thing,” Robins told BBC CWR.
He is out for the remainder of the season. Since I haven’t been able to talk to Tats in person other than via text, I want to give things some time to calm down before disclosing the details.
“He will be maybe eight to 10 weeks and that sees us to the end of the season.”
After scoring the first goal against Maidstone, Ellis Simms of Coventry raised Sakamoto’s shirt in the air and said, “We talked in the huddle that if anyone scored, they would dedicate the goal to him.”
Because he’s a well-liked team member, I want to dedicate it to him. He will be missed for a few weeks, but maybe he’ll be back in the dressing room soon, grinning and laughing.”
Sakamoto, who joined on a three-year contract in the summer from Belgian club KV Oostende, has scored seven goals.
