On Monday, a former Tennessee Vols star was awarded a lucrative contract extension by the NFL.
Jalen Reeves-Maybin, a linebacker and special teams ace for the Detroit Lions, played for Tennessee from 2013 to 2016. He recently signed a two-year agreement with a potential $8 million value.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Reeves-Maybin is now the highest paid core special teams player of all time as a result of the agreement.
In Detroit, the former Vol has established a good career for himself as a backup linebacker and member of special teams. And it’s obvious that the Lions value having Reeves-Maybin on the team, particularly after he played for the Houston Texans during the 2022 season (JRM began his career in Detroit).
There are moments when you realize you have nothing until it’s gone. The Lions also wished to prevent Reeves-Maybin from escaping once more.
