Matz Sels was acquired by Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window, although Nuno’s team preferred to get Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool.
Caoimhin Kelleher’s January move to Nottingham Forest is being connected.
On February 1, The Daily Mail revealed that Nottingham Forest was interested in acquiring Caoimhin Kelleher during the January transfer window from Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Forest made a £15 million offer for Kelleher in an attempt to prevent the feared relegation to the Championship at the end of the season. It was turned down by Liverpool.
Kelleher is now representing Liverpool’s first team in football due to Alisson’s injury. He has already received great praise from boss Jurgen Klopp, and assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders has also praised him.
The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international custodian is scheduled to start for Liverpool in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Honourable Caoimhin Kelleher
Regarding Kelleher, Lijnders stated to the official Liverpool website, “I still remember his first game.” Derby away [in the absence of observers]. They put us on something like the sixth pitch, or whatever, on a pitch that wasn’t the primary pitch. I am still aware. He stopped a penalty there, and you saw a fifteen-year-old youngster who was in a difficult situation at the moment. He had played in a trial match, and I was immediately impressed by his footwork. Before he became a goalie, I believe he played on the field for a number of years. All of us
We require two capable goalkeepers for a team the calibre of Liverpool. I’m overjoyed that we have. We already produce several excellent goalkeepers, but Caoimhin is arguably the most exceptional and complete one. That’s why it’s so unique and a testament to John [Achterberg], Jack [Robinson], Taffa [Claudio Taffarel], and the people at the Academy.
