Adam Reynolds, the experienced halfback and captain for Brisbane, has been signed for an additional year.
According to 9News reporter Ben Dobbin, the 33-year-old has consented to a one-year extension, which the Broncos want to announce by the end of this week.
This means that Reynolds will compete for the Queensland capital in rugby league for a record 14 seasons as he looks to win the league for the first time since 2006.
According to Dobbin, 9News, “this is great news for the Broncos and for the captain.”
“The deal is done, expect the Broncos to make this announcement when they land in Los Angeles in the coming days.”
Reynolds is taking a plane to Las Vegas this Sunday week to see the Broncos’ first-round game against the Roosters.
The 2014 champion is reportedly making $800,000 this year, but there are rumours that he took a big pay cut to play in 2025.
Reynolds gave Wide World of Sports an explanation of why he was willing to give up some money two weeks ago.
“It’s all right, you’ve got to sort of do that when you get to my age to keep the players in the squad,” he replied.
“I’m more than willing to give myself a little hair cut if it means keeping this team on the right track. We have a lot of amazing talent on the team.
“The club is definitely moving in the right way and is in good hands.
“There’s no reason this club can’t have the success it had back in the day, and that’s what we’re trying to achieve here.”
Over a ten-year span, Reynolds played 231 games for his beloved Bunnies and won the 2014 grand final with South Sydney.
In his first two seasons with the Broncos, he has participated in 43 NRL games; assuming he stays healthy for the following two seasons, that number should at least increase.
