After taking a crushing tackle from Toafofoa Sipley, Dominic Young will miss the Sydney Roosters’ 2024 NRL season opening in Las Vegas.
The winger informed supporters on Instagram that he was “all good” following the Tricolours’ 36-22 trial victory over the Manly Sea Eagles, despite being admitted to the hospital as a precaution.
According to a News Corp article, Young’s neck ligaments were reportedly damaged after the crusher incident.
Since then, James Tedesco, the team’s captain, has expressed his disappointment that the winger’s terrible injury will prevent him from playing in Vegas.
“It’s disappointing (Young won’t play), he’s been really exciting over the pre-season,” Tedesco told the Associated Press.
“I don’t think it’s as bad as first thought…so hopefully he’ll be right for round two.”
Sipley Toafofoa banned due to Dom Young’s crushing tackle
Following the incident, Sipley was charged with grade two crusher tackle; he entered an early guilty plea and was suspended for three weeks.
The Manly forward will miss games against the Roosters and Eels, as well as his team’s Vegas opening against the Broncos.
