Rivers’ former coach, JJ Redick of ESPN, wants some of the blame for the difficulties. Redick and Rivers were teammates on the Clippers.
“I can now see the pattern. During an appearance on First Take, Redick stated, “I’ve seen the trend for years.” “Excuses are being made more and more often. We understand, Doc. It is difficult to take over a squad in the middle of the season. We understand that it’s difficult, just as it is difficult for a player to be traded in the middle of the season.
It’s always an excuse, though. It’s always about putting your team last,” Redick continued. “His players are to blame for their team’s defeat over Memphis. Memphis was playing both two-way and G-League players. After releasing some statements over the weekend, he now wants to claim responsibility for the successful James Harden deal to the Clippers. Does he want to take credit for that? With that individual, there’s never accountability.
Redick cited a Clutch Points report by Tomer Azarly that contained the following passage regarding the Harden trade:
Doc Rivers stated, “I was the one, obviously, they consulted.” “When they called, I was among the men who suggested it would be a fantastic opportunity for them, since I believed he would be a better match with them than with the Sixers club. He seems like a wonderful match there. It’s a league. We converse. They only conversed and inquired, and I joined them early.
Throughout his coaching career, Rivers has participated in a number of postseason games; last season, he helped the Celtics defeat the Sixers.
The Celtics won their most recent championship in 2008, marking the 63-year-old coach’s only major career triumph.
As a coach, Rivers is 6-10 in Game 7s and has lost the last five. The Milwaukee Bucks, who advanced to the NBA Finals in 2022, are presently 8.5 games behind the Boston Celtics in first place in the Eastern Conference.
