Josh Heupel selected Washington co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach William Inge to replace Brian-Jean Mary and Cincinnati running backs coach De’Rail Sims to replace Jerry Mack on Monday afternoon. Inge is a highly regarded veteran defensive assistant and a strong addition for the Vols, but it also hurts Alabama, as former head coach Kalen Deboer had planned to bring Inge from Washington to Alabama as the Crimson Tide’s new outside linebackers coach. Instead, the 50-year-old assistant coach chooses to join Heupel’s staff in Knoxville.DeBoer and Alabama found Inge’s replacement quickly, appointing Christian Robinson, the linebacker coach at Baylor. Having previously worked as a defensive assistant at Florida, Ole Miss, and Auburn, Robinson has expertise in the SEC.
