Jacque Vaughn is no longer leading the Brooklyn Nets as head coach.
It’s no longer Jacque Vaughn’s turn to lead the Brooklyn Nets.
Vaughn was let go, according to numerous sources on Monday morning. The Nets made the official announcement shortly after.
In November of 2022, Vaughn, 49, was appointed head coach of the Nets following Steve Nash’s departure after just two seasons in that role.
Ime Udoka, who is currently the head coach of the Houston Rockets, was reportedly being courted by the Nets to replace Nash when Vaughn was first named interim head coach. However, this proved contentious, and a week later, Vaughn had the interim tag removed.
Vaughn guided the Nets to a 43-32 record in his 75 games as head coach. A few months into Vaughn’s employment in February of last year, the Nets initiated a partial rebuild upon Durant’s request, trading him to the Phoenix Suns.
The Nets are now 21-33 and 2.5 games off of the NBA’s Eastern Conference’s last Play-In position this season.
Vaughn had previously served as the Orlando Magic’s head coach from 2012 to 2015 before being sacked. This was his second tenure in the league.
His overall record as a head coach is 108-193.
In the 1997 NBA Draft, Vaughn was selected by the Utah Jazz with the 27th overall choice. He played in the league until 2009, spending the next two years with the Jazz. In 2010, he began an assistant coaching career with the San Antonio Spurs.
