Tyrese-Maxey-28 (1)

PHILADELPHIA: In the third quarter, Tyrese Maxey hobbled off the floor and headed to the locker room, giving the Philadelphia 76ers a slight fright. That might have been problematic for a Sixers squad that is currently struggling with a number of ailments.

Rather, Maxey was allowed to return and play the entire game despite the Miami Heat defeating him 109-104. He was able to get past his discomfort and finished with 30 points, seven assists, and six boards.

After the game, coach Nick Nurse disclosed that Maxey had exited with an ankle injury. Before returning to the field to complete the game, he had it re-taped.

Maxey answered, “Yeah, I’m alright,” referring to his ankle. We migrate, part of it happens. I have some time off, so everything should go well.

Although Maxey has some time free right now—the Sixers don’t play again until February 22 following the All-Star break—the rookie guard from Kentucky is leaving right now to play in Sunday’s All-Star game in Indianapolis. Because he will be in the spotlight for a while, he will also participate in the skills competition on Saturday.

Regarding the forthcoming weekend, Maxey remarked, “Surreal honestly, me and BK (director of performance Ben Kenyon) were just talking about it when I was lifting.” I like to think about it, so I just broke into a smile. It’s incredible; I’m very appreciative.

Maxey’s only goal going forward will be to enjoy the weekend to the fullest. With a record of 32–22, the Sixers are still in a great position and will want to improve somewhat after the break. It’s time for him to kick back and relish his first All-Star season.

“I’m going to talk a lot,” Maxey concluded. “To be honest, a lot of it is just taking it all in and feeling it. It’s significant even though it’s my first—and hopefully the first of many. Having  available to represent the 76ers in the All-Star game was really important. It is a positive thing for me to be able to represent this organisation in public. I’m really grateful for it.
