Throughout their entire history, Ross County has never defeated the Rangers.
Don Cowie thinks that any chance Ross County has of upsetting the Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday night must be based on hard work.
Derek Adams quit last Wednesday after the Staggies lost 5-0 at Motherwell, and the 40-year-old former Scotland international was brought in to lead the faltering team.
Adams and his predecessor Malky Mackay’s assistant, Cowie, will be in charge of a County squad that is second bottom in the unassailable Premiership, six points ahead of Livingston despite having played two fewer games.
Cowie is aware that a three-goal victory would allow Philippe Clement’s Rangers to pass Celtic at the top of the table.
The former midfield player, who played for the Dingwall club from start to finish after stints at Inverness, Watford, Cardiff, Wigan, and Hearts, stated: “Rangers are an excellent team on an excellent run but we can still create problems for them if we go there with a plan and the players pull together the way I know they can.”
“For me, hard effort is the cornerstone first and foremost. The cornerstone of achieving goals at Ross County is putting in a lot of work.
“I want players who have given their all to their team to be seen by the fans.”
“I’m probably a good example of what you can do with hard work. Even if some of these players are far more skilled than I am, you can succeed in football if you put in the necessary effort and make the most of your abilities.
“I have been given the responsibility of taking over temporarily; there is no set timeframe for this, and the club is not actively seeking a manager.”
It’s my responsibility to maintain composure within the team and to ensure that the players pick up their game.
It’s a proud moment for me and my family since it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and because it’s a club I know well and have been involved with for a long time.
While Scott Allardice and Ross Callachan (both knee), Ryan Leak and Dylan Smith (both ankle), and captain Jack Baldwin are still sidelined, Connor Randall recently had surgery.
