Which team—the Sacramento Kings or the Indiana Pacers—won the Tyrese Haliburton-Domantas Sabonis trade?

The NBA trade deadline for 2024 has passed. Compared to the previous season, this deadline was very different for the Indiana Pacers. Although they didn’t make any major trades like they did with Pascal Siakam the month prior, they were still fairly active in the market, most notably dealing Buddy Hield to three different teams in exchange for Doug McDermott and two second-round picks.

In overall, the deadline was somewhat lacklustre; the most notable transaction was possibly the trade of Bojan Bogdanović to the New York Knicks, which could potentially elevate the Knicks to the second-best club in the East.

With all of these lacklustre transactions, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the 2022 trade deadline and revisit what was likely the second-biggest transaction of the year and one of the biggest in Pacers history: the Tyrese Haliburton trade, which sent Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Tyrese Haliburton.

I want to discuss this trade for two reasons: first, it altered the course of events for both Sacramento and Indiana going forward; second, it is the trade’s second anniversary, and it is important to bring up as Indiana continues to benefit from Haliburton’s efforts.
