In order to take over as the team’s new defensive coordinator, the Dallas Cowboys and former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer have officially reached an agreement.

“Returning to such a wonderful organisation excites and honours me,” Zimmer told ESPN’s Ed Werder on Monday. “I’m thrilled to work with Mike McCarthy, for whom I have had a tonne of respect in our NFC North days, and to do anything I can do to help the Joneses and the Cowboys.”

Dan Quinn, who departed to become the head coach of the Washington Commanders following the 2023 season, will be replaced by him.

On Monday morning, Zimmer seemed to be on the verge of landing the position, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter disclosed on The Pat McAfee Show that it wasn’t finalised at all.Ryan shot off rumours that Zimmer’s contract with Dallas was finalised, stating that he discussed a possible return to the sidelines with Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

“I’m not sure Zimmer has that job right now,” he stated at the outset, according to CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan and Garrett Podell. “I’m not sure about that.”

But it seems like Zimmer is back in the NFL at this point. From 2014 until his dismissal after the 2021 season, he was the head coach of Minnesota. He had an 8-year record of 72-56-1 while playing for the squad.

In addition, Zimmer has worked as a defensive coordinator for a number of seasons, beginning in 2000 with the Cowboys. He was also a member of the Atlanta Falcons in the same capacity.
