Wednesday night’s game versus the Michigan State Spartans was played in front of a crowd that included Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons supporters, who saw it as an opportunity to make fun of their teams. Among these were the Kings’ many takes on 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s incredible catch in the NFC championship game earlier this month. With his reception, Aiyuk removed Lions cornerback Kindle Vildor’s facemask, sparking an incredible comeback that won the 49ers the game and advanced them to the Super Bowl.
The Kings used the fact that they don’t have an NFL club in their area—Sacramento is far from the 49ers’ home field—to convey some messages, if only on Twitter.
The Kings, who had won six of their previous eight games, destroyed the Pistons, who had fallen into such a terrible pace that they finished with one of the most dreadful records (6-43), losing twenty-eight games in a row. Jaden Ivey led the Pistons with a staggering 37 points, adding a wide range of other points with his typical style. They accomplished it in style, and Jarrett Culver continued to score another two rebounds for his team. Despite Domantas Sabonis’s career-best performance of 30 points and seven assists, the Kings were unable to win despite Sabonis’ strong play.
The Pistons had the last laugh by winning on the floor, despite the fact that the Kings’ antics during their pregame warmups made the game more intriguing.
