When it mattered most, Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino gave an FA Cup match against Aston Villa a performance of a lifetime.
Following two straight losses, in which the London team let up eight goals, including a 4-2 loss to Wolves the previous weekend.
Chelsea looked like a completely different team on Wednesday night when they played their FA Cup replay at Villa Park.
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez was one of the show’s highlights, and Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku praised him on Instagram for his play.
The 23-year-old defeated Emiliano Martinez, his Argentina teammate, in goal and scored a spectacular free kick to put his team up 3-0.
The way that Enzo Fernandez celebrated put an end to rumours regarding his future. By ripping off his shirt and flaunting it in front of Chelsea supporters, he made it clear that he is staying.
However, Enzo Fernandez posted on Instagram following the game, saying, “This is Chelsea” and “we are all together.”
Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson praise Enzo Fernandez
Nicolas Jackson said, “Brother, what a goal,” while Nkunku added, “big.” Madueke wrote, “Monster,” to Fernandez.
Chelsea progress in the FA Cup
That was Chelsea at their worst over the weekend, but one thing is for sure—this relieves Pochettino of some of the burden.
Some only wanted to fire Pochettino as manager, while others called for Jose Mourinho to take over.
However, the team’s continued participation in the FA Cup and the approaching League Cup final against Liverpool benefit everyone at Stamford Bridge and hide the reality that they are currently ranked eleventh in the Premier League.
Chelsea has undoubtedly not turned the corner, as that is the error that is typically made in this situation.
This is just another victory, more fuel for the team’s confidence, and a chance that, for the first time this season, they can genuinely go on a winning streak.
