Along with replacing championship-winning head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Michigan Wolverines also need to find a replacement for defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.
Minter followed Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers, where he oversaw the best scoring defence in the country the previous campaign. It leaves a significant hole for the reigning champs and incoming head coach Sherrone Moore.
Wink Martindale, the former defensive coordinator of the New York Giants, is one possibility that has been mentioned recently. The Wolverines and NFL teams are interested in Martindale, according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports.
Martindale, sixty, is well-liked in the football community. He recently completed a two-year term as the offensive coordinator for the Giants. A mutual agreement was reached by Martindale and the organisation to separate following the 2023 season because of perceived differences between him and head coach Brian Daboll.
Martindale was the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos (2010) and Baltimore Ravens (2018–21) in addition to the Giants. Over his career, he has commanded three defences ranked in the top 10.
It appears that Michigan is searching the professional ranks for a defensive coordinator to take Minter’s place, a crucial post. Martindale, on the other hand, hasn’t been a collegiate coach since directing the Western Kentucky defence in 2003.
