Delon Wright is reportedly appealing to the Kings.
In 2021, Wright spent a short time working with the Kings.
As we formally begin Trade Deadline week, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype presented a new round of trade rumours. According to the update, the Kings are still considering a pair of well-known players who have been Kings targets for months: Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale. However, the update also mentioned that the Kings are considering Delon Wright, a player whose name hasn’t been mentioned yet.
The Timberwolves, Kings, and Celtics are interested in trading for Delon Wright, league sources tell HoopsHype. Marc Stein also made notice of the Nuggets recently. League sources tell HoopsHype that Wright is anticipated to want compensation in trade talks in the form of a second-round draft selection.
Wright played 27 games for the Kings after being acquired by them during the trade deadline in the 2020–21 campaign. He was then transferred over the summer. Wright was dealt for Tristan Thompson, a decision that seemed odd at the time and has only gotten worse with time. Although I think that was one of Monte McNair’s worst trades, you’re doing very well by Kings GM standards if that’s your worst trade.
Wright would be a great addition to the Kings’ current team as a backup guard. Wright, a decent but mediocre shooter, would provide the Kings with additional size at the guard position at 6’5″. Even though Wright is getting less playing time for the Wizards this season, his efficiency ratings are still high. I would be delighted to welcome Wright back for a second tour in Sacramento if the cost was a second rounder and salary matching.
The trade deadline is at 12 PM PT on Thursday, February 8.
